Vista Very Slow maybe an adware problem

My vista laptop is extremely slow on start-up, shut down and most everything in between. I recently had a bout with some ad-ware and am not too sure if I fixed the problem entirely. I do have Ad-Aware 2007. I have ran the scan in safe mode and it still had 1 unsolved problem that seemed as if it wasn't going to be deleted. Again, I am not too familiar with removing ad-ware and don't know what other info I should post. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
