Happy New Year,
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and am trying to connect it to a HD Toshiba TV. I tried connecting a VGA/3RCA cable to the Video IN on the TV. When I connected it I played with the resolution from the laptop and got a crooked black and white image on the TV. Thank you in advance for your advice.

I guess that I'm not sure of your intent.

Are you trying to connect so that you can see the laptop screen on TV? Or are you trying to connect in order to capture from TV to the laptop?

Appears that you want to output to TV...does your video card support TV-out?

What make/model TV?

Toshiba Satellite what (model number)?

very few newer video cards support hd out, even fewer laptops afaik

can you adjust the tv for it's input from the laptop?

check on a regular sd tv to verify that you have the laptop's video out set up right

My apologies, yes I would like to use the Toshiba TheaterWideHD TV as a monitor. My Toshiba laptop: MDETR10ACP04.
Where do I look for video card specifications?
TV Toshiba model#: 32HL85

Your owner's manual should spell out the specs for the components, including video.

If you have it, look thru and see if you see a spec/statement re video out.

That data you provided for the laptop...appears not to be the model, looks like a serial number to me.

Thanks for the TV data.
