What this program does: MalwarePro is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays false results when you use the program to scan your computer.For example, when we tested this program on a computer that was recently infected with malware, not only did it not detect any of the malware, but listed files and drive letters that do not even exist on the computer. To make matters worse, in order to remove these fake infections you would then be required to purchase the software. This is obviously a tactic used to scare you into purchasing the software. Due to this deceptive behaviour we have classified MalwarePro as a rogue anti-spyware program. A screenshot of the MalwarePro program is shown below. MalwarePro Screenshot Please follow the instructions below to remove MalwarePro. Symptoms in a HijackThis Log: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MalwareProMFC] C:\Program Files\MalwarePro\MalwarePro.exe Add/Remove Programs control panel entry: MalwarePro Guide Updates: 12/27/07 - Initial guide creation. Removal Instructions for MalwarePro: These steps may appear to be long and daunting. They are, though, quite easy to do and consist of so many steps only because I have written them in an extremely detailed manner. Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that is open later in the fix. Click on the Start Menu button. Click on the Control Panel option. Double-click on the Add or Remove Programs icon. Find the entry for MalwarePro and double-click on it to uninstall the program. Follow the prompts to uninstall the program, but do not allow it to reboot the computer if it asks. When it has completed uninstalling you can close Add or Remove Programs and your Control Panel. Next, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following: Restart your computer After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode. Login as a user with administrator privileges. When your computer has started in safe mode, and you see the desktop, continue with the rest of the instructions. Click on the Start button and then select the Run option. In the Open: field type C:\Program Files\ and then press the OK button. When the folder appears, if it says These files are hidden, click on the Show the contents of this folder option. When the C:\Program Files\ folder opens, look through the list of folders and when you find the folder named MalwarePro, left-click on it once so it becomes highlighted. Then hit the Delete button on your keyboard and when it asks if you are you want to delete the MalwarePro folder, click on the Yes button with your mouse. Close the C:\Program Files Window. Click on the Start button and then select the Run option. In the Open: field type C:\Windows\ and then press the OK button. When the C:\Windows\ folder opens, look through the list of folders and when you find the folder named MalwarePro, left-click on it once so it becomes highlighted. Then hit the Delete button on your keyboard and when it asks if you are you want to delete the MalwarePro folder, click on the Yes button with your mouse. When the folder is deleted, reboot your computer back to normal mode. Once the computer has rebooted we want to perform an online scan with Panda to find any possible inactive remnants from this infection: Panda Online Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button A new window will open...click the Check Now button Enter your Country Enter your State/Province Enter your e-mail address and click send Select either Home User or Company Click the big Scan Now button If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes) When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan When the online scan has been completed, let it remove what it finds, and then you can close Internet Explorer. Your computer should now be free of the MalwarePro software.
