You should run 1 Antivirus and 1 software and several layers of anti spyware or spyware remaoval tools. In this catagory I run Spywareblaster, BOClean and SUPERAntispyware. Some use others these are my choices and I find it effective.

Although McAfee is as good as any other well known anti-virus program, it is known to be a resource hog that can slow down your system. McAfee requires numerous services and running processes that consume a lot of system resources and often results in complaints of high CPU usage.
