BleepingComputer.com: Wireless Problems

Hi all,

I have a netgear wpn824v2 wireless router. When I went through the set up process everyting went fine. On the veiw wireless networks in range mine was there. Speed: 54.0, Signal strength is excellent, status is connected. But when I try to access the internet, it will not. I can connect fine when I am directly into the modem itself. I have tried reseting the router and doing all that jaz of unpluging cables and restarting and what not. But it continues to have the same problem. Some trouble shooting tells me I need to contact my ISP, but I have, and they say it is a probelm with the router. The router people are telling me other wise. Everyone is pushing me off to another party. So I was hoping someone here could help??!! Please.

Have you run the Netgear software that came with the router? It does a fine job of setting up the network connections for you.

Just to be certain, have you "Enabled" the Wireless connection inside of the router? The wireless connection is usually turned off as Default.

Don't forget a security key!

Thanks for the advice...unfortunatley I have already tried those suggestions. I reset the router, and then typed in the IP address while the router was hooked up directily. I then went through the wizzard proccess, and chose to get my IP, etc. by letting the computer configure it. After the configuration is all done, including my security settings, it shows my wireless connection as an available wireless conection. I will then connect to it, which it does successfully, showing excellent connection. But when I try to open my internet browser, it show the "page cannot be displayed" page. So again thanks for the previouse advice, and if anybody has any further suggestions please let me know.

Have you tried to set it up without the security settings? That's the first step to troubleshooting these issues. If it hooks up without security - then it's your security settings that are causing the problem. If not, then it may be that there's a physical problem with the router (and maybe you can exchange it for another one from the place that you bought it from).

I would try the same computer with a different Wireless connection. Only then can you be sure whether it is the router or the wireless in the laptop.
