Windows Xp And Ms Office 2003 Recently used MS office files do not show

Last year there was an article in Neat Tricks that showed how to keep MS office from showing the last 3-5 files that a program had used. My son used the information to change our system so recently used files no longer show. I have been unable to find the article and would like to change the system back so that it does show recently used files. Does anybody know how to accompolish the task.

Try looking in Tools/Options/General:recently used file lists (check box and indicate number of recent files).
(this is for Word 98, but I suspect there is something similar).

In addition to what jgweed said, if the option to modify this feature is disabled, it could be that your son used Microsoft's "Tweak UI" utility:

The "Most recently used" list is missing from the File menu, and the "Recently used file list" option is unavailable in Office XP and in Office 2003:

Even though the menu path described in that article does not exactly match what is displayed in the version 2.10.0.0 of Tweak UI (most recent?) that I am using, the effect is the same on a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 system, and it works for both Word 2003 and Word 2007.
