I'm using free Comodo and have had no problems with it.
Keep in mind that there is no one size fits all when it comes to security programs. What works for me may not work for you. If Comodo doesn't play nice with your system, or if you decide you don't like it, there are many alternatives. You just have to find the one you are comfortable with. I went through 4 or 5 firewalls trying them out before I settled on Comodo.

Edited to add: If you at any time are thinking of purchasing a security program, see if what you are interested in has a trial version or free version which can be upgraded. If it does, try it on for size to see if it plays nice with your computer. It won't take you long to find out if it will.

Good to know you atleast have a firewall now, Windows Firewall only monitors incoming traffic but not outgoing, meaning there could be mailicuous software transmitting your information to hackers.
