The PS/2 mouse will freeze up unpredictably sometimes at the start of Windows XP start, other times during the course of use of the computer. I have installed/uninstalled disabled/enabled the mouse software, installed Norton 360, removed adware/spyware, cleaned up the start up - is there no end to this? I thought if it were a virus causing it, I got a registry cleaner (RegCure) to solve that. Is it a problem with the video board and its speed to adjust? I sometimes have temporary success in pulling/replacing mouse in port, but usually end up turning the system off/on to resolve, which sometimes takes several times to resolve. Is there a magic sledge hammer to fix the computer?

pulling the ps2 mouse or keyboard during power up can permanently damage the motherboard

try a new mouse

make sure it plugged in firmly(check to make sure you haven't bent some pins)

No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.

Try a USB mouse. You can also get an adaptor to go from PS2>USB. There are very few cases now where a PS2 mouse is a requirement. Usually DOS-based programs.

My personal preference is for a wireless USB optical mouse. Cut the cable!

Good luck.
