I click on my name in the Welcome screen and the first thing I see is at least one message from my firewall, asking whether I want to allow something access or not. How can this be when I am not connected to the Internet? According to the time on the message, my wife was using the computer at the time, so why didn't she get the message? I'm using Sygate PF and haven't had any problems with it up to now. Cheers...OG PS My OS is XP Home. |

Grinler,
Hello again, it isn't any particular program that it's asking about. One thing I've just noticed, is that the Sygate icon isn't showing in my wife's systray anymore, so does that mean that the firewall isn't working? I can't help thinking that this is all tied in with my problems with 'changing users' that I spoke to you about a few weeks ago, which I am still experiencing. Hoping you can help me again this time........ O.G. |

Grinler,
Glad to see the site up and running again. I was getting worried for a while there. The icon has returned to my wife's systray but it seems to be dependent on who logs on first as to who gets the icon as it's not in my systray now. Incidentally, the Tea Timer icon was missing from my wifes systray just before we changed over. Another thing that happened today, when I put it in to sleep mode and then came back, I couldn't wake it up again so I tried everything and in the end had to physically turn it off and turn it back on again. Also, on the welcome screen it's started saying that there is a program running when there shouldn't be, just like it did when I spoke to you before. Do you think that my problem could be caused by a conflict of programs? All this seems to have started since Christmas, when I got a couple of trojans, which I managed to get rid of but since then I've been using a lot more security programs to try and keep myself more secure. Thanks again.........O.G. |

Some programs startup in some user profiles and not others, so its possible its one of these new programs. Also it is not uncommon for sleep mode/hibernation to mess things up. I personally disable it and dont use it at all as it is know to cause problems

Grinler,
I might as well try disabling that myself and see if it helps. Can you tell me how to go about it please and does that disable the screensaver as well? What do you do when you leave the computer for any length of time, just turn the monitor off? As for those programs, I think I will uninstall the newest one and work my way back from there and see if that improves things....OG. |

Go into start , control panel, then power.
Change power schemes to always on, and change everything to never. Then click on hibernation and uncheck enable. Then put a screensavcer on and turn the monitor off when not using it -------------------- Lawrence
