What is better a run-of-the-mill on-board video made in 2000 with 1 mb of video ram, or a pci video card that is made in 1995 and has 4 mb of video ram?

Did you look into the BIOS to see if you can allocate more RAM to the onboard?

I have a few PCI video cards laying around, and they do not offer much in todays 3d-graphics intensive environment of 2007.
Why do you want to upgrade... ? If your MB supports an AGP card, I would look into that, as they can be had pretty cheap.

The 1995 video card is basically worthless. Considering that it is 12 years old. It could fail soon.
S3 made a decent one. So did ATI
I also have a few PCI video cards laying around. Not very many. Not much call for them anymore.
It all depends what you are doing with the system
If all you are going to do is standard home use, surf the net, check email etc the on board 1 meg is more than fine.
I assume the Windows version to be 98
