I recently attempted to update an IBM thinkpad 760XD to windows ME, and on the first boot after installation, I got an error message :
msgsrv32 has caused an error in msgsrv32.exe
msgsrv32 will now close
Then it goes to a blue screen and nothing else. Please help me resolve this problem.
Thanks.

Not familiar with ME at all, but seeing how you just attemted to update the OS I would say you need to update some drivers Can you get into safemode?

why won't my laptop work?
Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

There are no options as far as I can tell to boot into safe mode. Also, the Thinkpad can not boot from CD. Such is the fault of this model. I am not concerned at all with keeping any information on the computer, so extreme measures are ok.

I've resolved the problem. I used a boot floppy to get into dos and uninstalled windows ME. Luckily I had chosen the option to save the windows 95 files in case I wanted to revert. The tough problem was finding a suitable boot disk, because I didn't make one when installing ME.
