My Computer will have the modem hooked up (since it is fastest) (dont already) My Oldest Brother will have his though a router (Done already) My Parents Computer will have a direct connect through USB (Done Already). My other brother will have his though a wireless PCI card - Netgear Wireless G (Need help). I installed the Adapter, and installed the drivers and utilitys, It has a signal, and the try Icon for the Utility turned green, and windows' network unplugged Icon disapeers. But when I go and open up a browser I cannot view any thing, and with IE, no matter what site I go to it says Cannot connect to Search Page. Please Help me out here. |

I have
eMachines Old Compaq X-blade New Compaq the eMachines has the DSL modem which is already putting out a signal it is a 2wire Modem from SBC-Yahoo the Old compaq is connected directly with USB the New Compaq is connected using a USB Network Adapter and the X-blade is Wireless PCI. The X-blade is the problem, It is using a Netgear Wireless G (Model: WG311) I installed the Drivers and Utilities, and it found the network, all ok. I pressed connect, gave it a WEP encryption and applied. I tested it by using the internet. No browsers worked (firefox or IE) IE says, Problem contacting Search Page (or someting similar). Then when I have confirmed that the Wireless G works, I will switch the connections between the eMachines (directly to modem) with the X-Blade (which is wireless right now). So the X-blade will have the modem, and the eMachines will have the Wirless. |

The first step in a network when diagnosing problems is to make sure the other computers can all speak to each other. Can they?

Forget the internet right now. Can you ping the other computers from your wireless computer? This will tell us if its a internet (router) problem or a networking issue

First get an ip address from one computer that is working. To do that click on start, then run, and type cmd and press enter. Then type ipconfig and press enter. You can type exit to exit the dos prompt.
Then from the computer that is not working, click on start, then run, and type cmd and press enter. At the dos prompt type: ping ipaddressfromothermachine and press enter. If it can see it , it will reply to the pings -------------------- Lawrence

Nope it is not....it says unable to find host (or something very similar)
I tried many times... ping ipaddressfromothermachine and in different ways, none of them work. I am running Windows 2K (if that makes any difference). |
