Is the router set to use dhcp to give out ip addresses or are you statically assigning ip addresses to the machines?

Grinler I think he has only one computer going thru the router the rest is some kinda hodgepodge, not really a network LOL

See if ya can talk him into going thru the router on all of them. Alot more stable a network environment. I gotta go rewire a 100 unit wireing closet, somebody drove a forklift thru the one they used to have.

I may be out of my depth here, but I can think of a couple of problems:
First, the SSID should be the same on the computer and the router.
Second, some DSL companies require that you contact tech support to get wireless computers hooked up. I wouldn't enable WEP encryption until you've got the connection working - and it has to be enabled and configured on the router, not just the computer trying to connect to the router.

Finally, open IE on the wireless computer and go to tools -> internet options. (Doing this from memory) On the Connections tab, choose "Never dial a connection."

And although this may be silly, Grinler's advice to "ping ipaddressfromothermachine" means to use the actual IP address from the other machine in place of the words, "ipaddressfromothermachine."

I couldn't tell if you understood that from your replies.

Lol...I didnt, lol, I thought I was supposed to type
ping ipaddressfromothermachine
then see if I got the same IP as the other machine....lol my bad.
Let me try that again crazy.gif crazy.gif

it says
QUOTE
unable to contact Ip Driver, Error code 2

...that might be more usefull lmfao.gif

I also tried disabling securty (no WEP), and it wouldnt get a signal,
as well I tried Advanced (WPA-PSK) Encryptin, same thing
Only thing that gets a connection is WEP.

The modem we got from SBC YAHOO, had a router built in, so I dont think it is my ISP.

This is going to be really hard to diagnose, as I think its just that your wireless part is not configured correctly. Make sure your wireless adapter tcp/ip settings is set to receive an ip address automatically. Also configure your adapter to use the same ssid as the router. If the netgear software can be used to configure the connection, use that instead of the windows wireless zero config (which i think is horrible. Disable that if you dont need it)

Then dont use any encryption and see if you can connect to the wireless router and get an ip address and internet. Then once that works, add the encryption on.

I am pretty sure that the tcp/ip is set to receive automatically (Not sure where to go to find this, I just know that the Machine the Modem is connected to has DHCP enabled, and running).

The SSID's are the same.
In my services I was not able to even find The Wireless Zero so no probs there (I hope).

I tried it with out WEP Encryption and it connects, then disconnects, then connects, but even when it is connected I still cant use Interent.

I found in my services on the wireless computer, that the Internet Connection Sharing, was set to manual, so I put that on Automatic, and tried to start it, but it wont Start, I get an error that basically says "Windows could not start this service, and the service did not send an error"
Which is extremely vague to what the problem is.

Sorry took so long, ive been busy...Any way, I think that this might be the problem.

ipconfig came up with an error:

QUOTE
Window 2000 Ip Configuration

Error: TCP/IP is not running on this system

So I guess I need to turn this on??

and...HOW?

Yeah that could do it. Go to the control panel, network connectins, right-click on your adapter, and put a check in tcp or add the protocol if its not there

Ok I think that helped but it didnt solve the problem.
This is what I get from the Wireless Machine when I:

IPCONFIG:
Connection-Specific DNS Suffix:
Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.18.117
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: (This is the Brand name of my Router/Modem)

PING IPADDRESSFROMOTHERMACHINE:
Pinging ipaddressfromothermachine with 32 bytes of data:

Destination host unreachable
Destination host unreachable
Destination host unreachable
Destination host unreachable

Ping Statistics for ipaddressfromothermachine
packets: Sent=4, Received=0, Lost=4(100%, loss)
Approximate round trip times in mili-seconds
minimum=0ms, maximum=0ms, average=0ms

It seems the router doesnt want to communicate with the wireless. Do I need to set up a new connection on the Router Machine??

If you do not have dhcp turned on the router, you need to supply a static ip address to your machines. What is the config like in the tcp properties on the other machines? Copy those same settings to the new machine, but make sure the ip address is a different number.

IE: if one machine is 192.168.1.10

The new machine cant have that same number instead it should have 192.168.1.11

Same as before but the except the
Autoconfiguration IP Address changed.

Is there any services that I should make sure are running and what not, because I like to mess with my comp.

Its 169.254.35.248

Also I forgot to mention in the Network and Dial-Up Connections, theres a new icon for incoming connections but it says that I have no hardware device for accepting the call.
