BleepingComputer.com: Vista Home Premium Help!

I have this problem with my Vista for a week now. Most of the time when i open up a program it's shows it's not responding but after a while it will be ok. Any programs this is the case i have to wait for a minute or two or more in order for it to respond. Also one thing i noticed since they are not responding most of us would open up task manager and try to shut it down i get this message every time i start task manager "log on process failed to create the security options" Failure security options message.

Then comes the shutting down issues when i log off or shut down my pc explorer.exe is causing the computer not to shut down and you have to click shut down of log off in order for me to shut it down.


What could be the cause of this and what can i do? No to system recovery since i have a lot of files in here. Is there a simple and easy way to resolve this problem???

Have you installed a Firewall? Be sure you only have one firewall running. If you have installed one, then shut down the Windows Firewall and see if it helps.

i only have the windows firewall running on my system. and based on this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic119638.html i have checked my reliability monitor and there are a lot of red x mostly on the software failures.

this just started to happen a week ago. haven't installed any new softwares or any hardware changes on my pc.

What software programs show as failures? This could be the source of your problems.
What other errors show up - they also could be contributing to the issues.

usasma it is showing these errors Explorer.EXE explorer.exe both stopped working and stopped responding this is just today. there are the same errors few days back. with winword.exe error launch.exe and rundll32.exe, windows media player error, outlook.exe, onetouchaccess.exe

these are the errors this past few days. i can't even open and run task manager.

Have you run any antivirus scans? I'm suspicious of the bizarre behavior of explorer.exe - along with the rundll32.exe errors. Launch.exe is used by a lot of programmers - so it could be at fault also.

yes. I have Avast, Spybot S&D and Lavasoft AdAware try running them one by one none found. It's strange why everytime i open up a window it shows not responding and after awhile it will respond. I will try to see if an online scan will be able to find these malwares.

Hope it does and it does get rid of it. will do a scan now. Lets see what happens after.

IMO it's most likely malware - and the online scans should detect it. BUT, this doesn't mean that it is malware - just that it's suspected.
Once the malware is ruled out, then we can pursue other possible scenarios (and fixes).
