Do you have a OEM (Operating system that came installed in the computer) or you installed the software yourself?

If the case is an OEM please let us know the specs of your PC.

What make and model is your PC?
If you can't go online to activate your copy of Vista - then you'll have to make the phone call.
An excellent article about Windows Activation: http://www.windows-vista-update.com/Window...Activation.html

I work with OEM's, and sometimes you have to use a function to make it work. Some strange thing with Vista.

I ask cause if your PC/NB is lets say HP, call HP and tell them the situation you are having. But if it's a Operating System you purchased then you call Microsoft for another Key. If you use the Key in the label on a OEM, for some reason it will give you the fact it's invalid in some cases. and calling MS for a new one will end in them referring you to your manufacturer, even xfering the call  stating the key is invalid.

OEM's don't need to be activated, but Vista will ask for this in some cases and there is a way to fix it, I'm sure your manufacturer will help you on that.

I don't think it's permitted here to post the function to rearm it. so please go to your manufacturer.

The weather has cleared and I was able to get a hold of microsoft. After I restored my notebook I had to phone in to reactivate it.
I couldn't just do it on line. So all is well now.
Thank you for the help and advice.

that happens. if you have already activated once like when you first bought it. It sometimes will make you call them.
I think they just want you to talk to them that way once in awhile they get crazy callers they record them and listen to the latter and all laugh. :-D
