I got a new DVD burner that came w/ my new computer. - LG GSA-H54N 18x DVD-Writer However, it really seems to burn very slllloooooooowwwwwwwwwww. On my old computer, I could burn a movie w/ my old dvd burner inside of 30 mins, but my new burner has taken me 1+ hours to burn. my new burner's maximum speed is 18x I've set the speeds to burn at 16x, then 8x, but it still takes that long to burn (same happens w/ cds). I've been using the same software & discs on both my old & new computer, so i know it's not the problem there. Any suggestions how to fix it? thanks. |

That's indead slow 5-7 min for a dvd I think would be more natural.
Right-click My computer Properties Hardware Device Manager Where is says IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right-click your primary and secondary IDE channel respectively. In properties there, there is a banner that says advanced settings. Check your drive is set to DMA if available in transfer mode. This post has been edited by nightspydk: Nov 28 2007, 10:17 PM |

I don't think that should be PIO. Runnung in PIO is very slow. Have you got any idea, if this is the channel your burner works from.
Could be obsolete IDE wiring? edit Have you tried pressing the arrow down key, where it says PIO only. Change to DMA if available. Select OK and reboot the system. Here's something about PIO/DMA from microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx This post has been edited by nightspydk: Nov 29 2007, 01:16 AM |

Sometimes resetting the DMA from PIO as nightspydk described will not "set". Here is a registry file that will do it for you.
First go into Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. Click Apply. Then open Notepad and copy/paste this: (without the -------- parts) ----------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000] "SlaveIdDataCheckSum"=- "MasterIdDataCheckSum"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001] "SlaveIdDataCheckSum"=- "MasterIdDataCheckSum"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002] "SlaveIdDataCheckSum"=- "MasterIdDataCheckSum"=- -------------------- Give it a name like Reset DMA and save it on your desktop or wherever. (I keep mine handy in my Tools folder for whenever I might need it again.) You'll get a warning when you save it. Ignore it. Now you should have a file with the registry icon. (Back up your registry before applying it, just in case.) Now click it and say yes when it asks if you want to merge the file with your registry. XP is set up by default to reset to PIO after X amount of errors. So the secondary IDE channels can get reset to PIO without you even knowing it, until you start having the s-l-o-w burns and failures again. Edit: After creating the registry file, go back to Tools-Folder Options and re-check Hide extensions for known files. This post has been edited by mommabear: Nov 29 2007, 06:57 PM |

try LuK's method first, by uninstalling the controller that the dvd burner is on, if that is too hard to do, try the reset tool
but like it says it only works with windows drivers this isn't that hard -------------------- Chewy
