--------------------------------- Hi, First post, and I immediately apologize if this is in the wrong place or does not follow proper guidelines, please advise if I have done so and I will comply. I have read the introductions and am trying to follow them. Windows XP Professional AVG Version 7.5.503 and database 269.16.7/1152 Spybot S&D Lavasoft Adaware Microsoft Firewall Linksys Router I've been out of town for a week and when I started my computer my AVG update and scanner ran and in the test result summary was one error. To get the specifics on this error I went to the virus results tab and it says: Object: Partition table [MBR] Result: Reading Error Status: Error There was no further explanation for this item in AVG so I googled it and the only seemingly relevant things I found on it were the following pages: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?8,53284,sv= http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/readi...pict441946.html I found neither of those sites particularly helpful, especially the second. My computer is not running slowly and does not seem effected/infected. I have run checkdisk and found no errors. I have NOT uninstalled and re-installed AVG, I have run Spybot and Adaware with nothing out of the norm as a result. My Microsoft updates have not been done recently enough and I am installing those. I have run another AVG scan and the partition table item is still there but no longer reads as an error but instead just says: Object: Partition table [MBR] Result: Change Status: Changed This leads me to believe the problem is fixed if their ever was one. I am very appreciative for any any information on what this error is or may be, even a very basic explanation, and thank you in advance. It's probably just that avg tried scan your master boot record.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Boot_Record As an extra precautions against virus. Bootvirus. Nothing peculiar about it as far as I can tell, but it is true, I have been known to be wrong. I don't think you need to worry, unless your system starts acting up. This post has been edited by nightspydk: Nov 27 2007, 09:07 AM |

Well...MBRs are often noted as changed whenever there are updates to AV programs or some scans. This is perfectly normal with AVG Free.

Ok, I just restarted for the first time after doing all the Microsoft Updates and I got this error message:
Access violation 74E50cc2. Read of Address 74E50cc2. It was definitely in conjunction with Spybot S&D as it was hung up prior to the shutdown portion of the restart, e.g. "Spybot is having trouble closing: End Now, Cancel" Here's what I've found: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=18809 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic91118.html http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...23104735AAKy6QG Seems like a Spybot problem and not an intrusion or virus per se? Any thoughts or info is greatly appreciated as always! |
