First post, and I immediately apologize if this is in the wrong place or does not follow proper guidelines, please advise if I have done so and I will comply. I have read the introductions and am trying to follow them. Windows XP Professional AVG Version 7.5.503 and database 269.16.7/1152 Spybot S&D Lavasoft Adaware Microsoft Firewall Linksys Router I've been out of town for a week and when I started my computer my AVG update and scanner ran and in the test result summary was one error. To get the specifics on this error I went to the virus results tab and it says: Object: Partition table [MBR] Result: Reading Error Status: Error There was no further explanation for this item in AVG so I googled it and the only seemingly relevant things I found on it were the following pages: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?8,53284,sv= http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/readi...pict441946.html I found neither of those sites particularly helpful, especially the second. My computer is not running slowly and does not seem effected/infected. I have run checkdisk and found no errors. I have NOT uninstalled and re-installed AVG, I have run Spybot and Adaware with nothing out of the norm as a result. My Microsoft updates have not been done recently enough and I am installing those. I have run another AVG scan and the partition table item is still there but no longer reads as an error but instead just says: Object: Partition table [MBR] Result: Change Status: Changed This leads me to believe the problem is fixed if their ever was one. Just in case I have a Hijackthis and my log file is as follows: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:22:08 AM, on 11/26/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\InCD\InCDsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD\ULCDRSvr.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe C:\Program Files\ASUS\AI Suite\AiNap\AiNap.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\WinFast\WFTVFM\WFWIZ.exe C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\InCD\InCD.exe C:\Program Files\Elaborate Bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\VCDDaemon.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis and probably missed the directions we provide to those who require assistance. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice, whether well meaning or not.
Prior to posting a HJT log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system. Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you have performed some of them already, then just continue with the next. If you can't perform a step, then skip it and continue with the next. The last step will include downloading and using the most current version of HijackThis if the first line of your log does not appear as follows: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Please note that it is important that HijackThis be run and a log created while in normal mode. If you run it and create your log while in safe mode, you will be asked to redo it again properly. When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Guide to post a new log. Please DO NOT post any more logs to this topic, or post a log again in the wrong forum. This Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. If you have a question or encounter a problem in the Prep Guide, please do post back to this topic; that is what it is here for. When your new HJT log is posted in the proper forum, please reply to this topic with a link to your new topic. Once that is done, a Member of the HJT Team will analyze your log and assist you with step by step instructions to clean your computer or otherwise advise what needs to be done. Thanks for your cooperation and good luck. The BC Staff -------------------- I love being married.
It's so great to find that one special person you want to annoy, for the rest of your life. |
