Ms Powerpoint PowerPoiint Viewer can't open .ppt/.pps file

I created several .ppt presentations, and had no problem opening, editing, etc.
Now when I try to view some of the files with Viewer 2003 and/or Viewer 2007, I get an error message telling me they are not a .ppt files. I get the same message with some of my .pps files. When I open the "properties" box, it shows the files a .ppt/.pps files. The only thing I have done with these files is change the names from .ppt to .pps and back, and burned some of the files to CD-R/RW discs.
Can anyone suggest what the trouble may be, and how to correct it?

Osprey100 (Tom),

My guess is that when you renamed the files, your computer was not set to show the 3 letter extension. So you may have ended us with a double extension.

e.g. mypresentation.ppt.pps

I'm also guessing that this is causing your computer to not to know what to do with the files.

I suggest telling your computer to show you the full extension... by doing this.
