How Do I Turn Up The Sound? - Vista

Hello I just got a new computer and the sound is not very loud i cant hear it to well. I right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and click open volume mixer and its already at the top how can I make it louder? My old laptop sound gets really loud and both of the laptops are made by hp. There is sound coming from the speakers just not loud enough because it sounds like some one is whispering when some one is yelling. Please let me know any ideas. Thanks

You'll probably need powered speakers - the kind that plugs into the wall in addition to your speaker jack.

the ones i had before on my old laptop were not plug ins

With the sound being very low when you listen it, that indicates (to me) that you don't have an amplifier in your new system that's capable of powering external speakers. Try plugging a set of ear buds into it and see if the volume is OK - if so, then you'll need the powered external speakers to get decent sound levels.
