It depends on the type of connection that you have and what you are doing online. If you are on a dialup connection you will notice an increase in speed if you go to a broadband connection, but pages opening online all are dependent on the amount of traffic on the site as well as other contributing factors which may slow it down. If you are downloading with a dialup connection you will notice a big difference in speed by switching to broadband.

Lline quality means everything. By that I mean no nicks in the wiring, good clean and tight connections

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

You can speed your browsing on some sites, by running the EvID4226Patch223d (google) patch for xp. Increase your number of half-open connection. It requires that you tamper with browser settings as well.
You will be in a sence sacrificing cpu for bandwidth.

You should be aware that there are security issues invovled, so do at your own risk. You render yourself more open for attacks.

It does not affect download speeds.

PS - You might be flooding certain sites with request packages, so don't blame me for the consequenses.

Experiment and have fun.
