Try C:\WINDOWS\System32. The shortcut should be right in the system32 folder-it'll look exactly like a desktop icon (little glass holding paint brushes) titled "mspaint.exe".

I tried the mspaint.exe and a dialog box pops up with "Winders cant find mspaint.exe" I also tried paint and tried searching for paint with the wizard.

You could try this:-
Control panel>add remove programs>add remove windows components>accessories and utilities>details>accessories>details then scroll down to paint and make sure there is a check mark in the box. If not, check it then apply/ok back out. See if that brings it back. |

If non of the above work, then ahve a look at paint.net a free utility similar to that of mspaint but with more features and free!

I looked in the components under ad remove programs and it was there, I unchecked everything then checked the one with paint.
IT WORKED Only problem now my Internet Explorer is gone since paint came back. ...this is weird like a program napping I have old htm files that when I open opens IE but it is gone from my start menus I downloaded paint.net and that program rocks it reminds me of photoshop This post has been edited by Martel: Nov 22 2007, 11:17 PM -------------------- |

Is it just the Internet Explore start-up entry that has gone, or is it the whole thing.
If the whole thing, go back through the route you used to find Paint and make sure there is a check in the IE box. If that doesn't help go add or remove progs>main configuration panel>custom and in the internet connections box make sure that IE is checked as your browser of choive. If it is just your start menu icon that has gone, go c\programmes>internet explorer, right click on the icon for IE and in the dialogue choose "send to desktop" This will create shortcut icon on the desktop which you can then drag and drop into your start me nu. |

You shouldn't have un-checked anything.
You should have only put a check, next to Paint. -------------------- I love being married.

I went to programs/InernetExplorer and there are several sub folders..connection wiz....mui....plugins..signup..
I looked in every folder and there was no application.. Note* I have IE 7 And on the unchecking...There were several things already checked when I opened add/remove components so I unchecked them. bc it says select a component you want to add/remove meaning if it's checked and already working it will be removed. Went to controlpanel/addremovecomponents/ Explorer was there I checked it and made sure nothing else was checked
Then I hit the add/remove button That put the IE icon back on my start menu. And Paint was still there. You all are going to think I'm nuts. I am not going to pursue this but, wordpad is gone !And filmstrip is no longer an option on my folder views This is all the result of a new hard drive and installation of XP MCE that's when all this craziness started. Don't uncheck things that are already there. This is why they are disappearing.
