BleepingComputer.com: Ram Error

Hi I built a custom computer every thing is working fine I had 2 gb ram in my computer and I just bought another 1gb
when i put the 1gb stick in now it says I only have 1gb ram what happened to my other 2gb?

This is the kind of mother board I have:

my motherboard says it can hold 12gb can any one help?

2 gb ram + this new one

Does the BIOS only reflect 1 gB of RAM - or is it only in Windows?
Did you unplug the system from the wall and ground yourself on the case while installing the RAM (or used an anti-static wrist strap)?
Have you removed the RAM, cleaned the slots out (with compressed air) and then reseated the RAM firmly in each slot?
Is your motherboard setup for Dual Channel or Single Channel memory?
Have you run a program like this free one ( http://www.memtest86.com/ ) to see what it says about each stick? If it still doesn't detect all 3 sticks, run the test on each stick individually. Then take a known good stick and run the test on each slot in the mobo.

There's a few possibilities here (before even going into Windows):
1) Bad stick(s) of RAM
2) Bad memory channel(s) on the mobo
3) Memory incompatibility

I know that the two sticked i had before are good and when i put in this third stick it only shows as one stick now. :-S

hi,,, you say the 2 sticks were ok,,, but i think the point John's makeing first is are they and your new one still ok,,,, i once put some more ram in one of my pc's,,, i grounded my self on the case lid then decided to clean out the slots of my ram alredy installed,, i wiped my hands on my shirt that always has static in it and spiked my ram,,,,,,oooops,,, an expencive mistake,,, i purchased a anti-static wrisrband for 1pound= $2 ish,,, and some more dual channel ram for about £120 pounds = $240 dollars ish... damn all for a pound,,,,,lol,,,,,, GOODLUCK ,,,,,,Figgis

Yes It was unplugged and every thing was grounded. I also touch metal surface just encase. I will test each stick of ram tonight, Then I will mem test
and I will check system Bios thank you

HaHaHa, I was looking at each stick of ram one of them was not set into the mother board all the way. Good times
