hi

ive a wee problem.

my packard bell easinote vista laptop,

weve been filling it up with a lot of rubbish , and also transfered massive files from our old xp pc, pics, music, and vidz

after the easy transfer of our files, ive noticed my hdd is full but by a couple of mbs,

its really slow and full " as a whelk"

any how, after transfering our files from xp to this vista laptop, i did a recovery of the xp pc and its empty, ""great"" then i transfered my pics, music and vidz back onto the xp pc.

im left with the laptop full and would like it back to the factory presets, full cleanup, clean swipe.

how do i do this.

the laptop was bought from pc world 6 months ago, and vista was already installed, so ive no cd with this,

please help, id like to full recover it

If all you did is transfer files (not programs) onto the laptop, and you've now copied them back to the old PC, simply deleting them and the directories/folders they are in should bring your laptop back to the way it was.

I'd delete (delete from the "trash bin" too) enough to get back say 20% of your HD space and then re-boot. This will allow your system to use that recovered HD space for it's virtual memory swap file and it should be noticeably faster. Then delete the other pics, music and vids, etc. that you temporarily moved to the laptop.

Again, if you didn't add or install any programs, it will be back the way it was before you started the transfer ordeal.

Oh, and don't forget, after you've gotten rid of all of those files it would be a good idea to defrag the system, too.

That's my take, unless I'm not understanding something you did.

can i ask why if you only bought the laptop from pc world 6 months ago you don't still have the recovery disk? if pc world didn't give you one, then I suggest you que up at their technical desk with your receipt and demand one

On a different note.. vista is a new beast and i'm sure i can speak for a lot of vista people that we are still trying to get to grips with it, so you are not alone with performance issues (goodness knows i suffer frequently)

also, i would go with JohnWho and defrag the system..

and all the family have been using this, their are loads and loads of things installed on it that il never need, thats why i wanted to recover it, get rid of every thing.

as my two sons will not be using this anymore, they can use the other xp pc,

What make/model is the laptop?

You may have a "recovery" partition on the HD.

I'm still not sure that identifies the model properly, based on the PB website model information.

I would have thought, as webwizard does, that you should have gotten original CD/DVDs with the system. Some written manuals of a sort, too.

Here is the Packard Bell Easynote website which, hopefully, will give you further guidance or at the least a PB support contact to resolve the issue of how to put it back to "factory fresh" condition.


Perhaps someone else here has more direct information on this model?
