BleepingComputer.com: Re-educating Computer After Running Adaware And Deleting Visited Url's?

on my Win 98se; IE6 machine ;sorry but that is the best title I can come up with for this query;

I ran adaware se ( as one does) and this time decided to delete the ' visited URL's' list in it; I know I can retrieve these from quarantine if desperate; BUT; I was of the impression that the computer will 'remember 'where I have been and those sites should be accessible in the drop down URL list OF visited sites( NOT the favourites list ); at present they are NOT despite my previously opening several sites rebooting AND deliberately opening several windows of different sites


any idea what I need to do ?

is my query 'clear' and understandable?

I think you are talking about the history list in the drop down menu?
It is controlled by a file basically.
Flush the file, dump the trail.

Only appears again if you type a URL into the addres bar
98 SE is sill my favorite OS!

Not a big fan of Ad Aware anymore.
SuperAntiSpyware is better imo

Ruby, looks like you included the MRU (Most Recently Used) list in the items removed after your last Ad-Aware scan.

Start Ad-Aware, click on the Padlock icon (Quarantine Manager), by date select from the list the auto-quarantine file that corresponds to the scan that took your URLs and Restore it. Your MRU lists (including the URLs) will re-appear. Re-scan with Ad-Aware, but only select undesirables you want to remove, leave MRU lists unchecked.

If you have Ad-Aware set to permanently delete rather than quarantine, you'll have to re-build the URL list by visiting the sites again.

how, apart FROM reinstating the adaware deleted URL's do I get mine to gradually return?

I have visited several sites since I did the clear out but as yet the drop down menue remains blank for me; how long might it take to restore it ?

As far as I'm aware, the Address Bar drop-down only remembers the addresses you type, which is annoyingly why the mis-typed ones are there as well...

I think you will need to either restore from Ad-Aware or type in the URLs you want to have in the drop-down.

Save the websites you want as favorites instead of in the history
Ad Aware, CCleaner and other programs will clear the history

Visiting sites will not make them reappear. You myst physically type (or copy/paste) into the address bar for them to reappear in the list

the copy and paste method seems to be working BUT I think I need to physically type in one that refuses to 'take' despite repeated copy and paste efforts
