I just tried a few live distros yesterday and enjoyed it very much, however I still have a few questions.

1. are viruses as rampant/big a problem in linux as with windows?
2. Is it worth getting a certification as an administrator for linux machines? (if the course is paid for)
3. why specificly is it considered more stable than propritary OSes?

1. No, but as Linux grows it's user base more nasty things
are likely to come along. Luckily the Linux security model prevents
damage to the filesystem by regular users.

2. Depends if you are going to be a Sys Admin or just a Linux user.
There's a "huge" difference between a desktop machine and say....
30,000 servers online (theplanet.com)

3. Linux is community supported. When something is wrong thousands of
people contribute to make it right. Windows is made by Microsoft, the source
code is not available for inspection and therefor can not be improved by the masses.
