I share a wireless connection with 4 people in a household - we all have laptops. We get internet through comcast broadband, and have not had any problem with that modem.

The problem is with the Router. It will intermittently fail, and all computers will not be able to connect to it. All it takes to fix it is to unplug the router for a couple seconds then start it again. But this has been happening several times a day for a few months, and needless to say it is very frustrating.

We have tried two different routers, but have experienced the same problem with both of them. One is a Linksys wireless-G 2.4Ghz. The other is a netgear 54 Mbps WGR614 v.6.

I would very much appreciate any ideas on how to solve this problem

Thanks!

Have you tried checking the modem for the upstream and downstream signal power levels? Depending on the model, you may be able to enter 192.168.100.1 into your browser to access the cable modem and view these levels. Post back with them and we can see if they're sufficient for the network to operate.

Have you updated the firmware for the routers?
Are any of the computers using Windows Vista? According to this list ( http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductLi...d=712&f=86b ) the routers aren't Vista "certified" (but they may still work)

If you're using Vista there are several "tweaks" that may help (although I'm not sure that this is a Vista issue):
1) Disable the IPHelper service in the Services applet (Go to Start and type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter)
2) Disable IPv6 in the Properties for the connection
3) Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag with these directions: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233
