BleepingComputer.com: Question On Bulding A Website.

I would like to start off by saying that I have absolutely no knowledge on building websites and kinda suck at computers in general but am getting better. Ok, here is the situation. I found this website called http://500megsfree.com. I have always wanted my own website because I have a ton of content to put on it. Well when I saw this site I thought wow! This is my chance! But then they emailed me and asked me ( Have you already created the site's layout? Are you ready to start uploading the site? ) I thought that this site would have the tools to walk me through this. But aparently not. I dont even understand what they are looking for when they ask me that. But I want to do this! So I will learn. So my questions are as follows.

- Is http://500megsfree.com/ the best free site for this or is there a better one where they wont take as much money.

- Is there a site that will walk a computer iliterate guy like me through developing the site I want?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another question. Where can I go to learn html and everything else I need to know to build a website. In my business if I could build a website I will make a ton of money.

Ummmm, I'm not sure you'll get much help here about 500megsfree.com, given that it appears to be a site for "adult" content. I could be wrong, of course, given that I'm still pretty much of a newbie here. I did run across a site called adultwebmasterinfo.com, where perhaps you'll get the answers you need.

I learnt html by myself, without a teacher in w3school :D

just google it and I think you'd find it.

You can choose anything ranging from html, css and all the stuffs needed for building a web site.

I use www.freehostia.com for my web hosting. Their free service is absolutely phenomonal (no ads, access to MySQL, PHP, CGI; it's full fledged hosting).

As for learning, I highly recommend http://www.pageresource.com as a great website. Plus, their forum is chock full of web content experts of all types (no offense to BC's own web site development forum, it's just that pageresource's forum is completely focused on the topic.)

Also, there's a great HTML book called HTML in an Instant (link to Amazon, where' it's only 10 cents!). It's a little old (2001) but is an excellent reference for HTML. Once you get HTML down (it's surprisingly simple) you can move on to javascript, PHP, and all those other lovely web technologies.

Any experienced webmaster will tell you that you need a good FTP program. One of (if not the) best such programs is Filezilla, which is open source and free (as in free beer).
