I really appreciate all the help you all have given me. Yes I can arrow down an use the value keys to make changes. But the options aren't great. I have listed this out with the different options that come with each setting. I keep telling everyone this is the screen that I get and they say it's my Bios. I tell them its not enough of that here what you asked for.

Thanks Not_anyone

I don't see where the setup is recognizing the hard drive. I don't see the option we are looking for to change the boot options.
If you put in the floppy 98 start up disk and do not hit any keys, what comes on the screen? Do you see an option that says Start with Cdrom support?

Yes it gives me the option to start with cd support. Once I get in off of the windows 98 start up disk and can read all drives right now there is nothing on drice c: I used fix disk on it. I made a start up disk for recovery cd to work. It starts up and I get a green flash and then it goes back to black screen with blinking - and it won't do anything so I reboot off of the windows'98 start up disk.
Thanks alot Crizz44

I am wondering if your hard drive is being recognized. Can you get an A prompt when you use the start up floppy?

A:\>

If so type C: after it and see if it changes to C:\> if it does type Dir/p after it and see if it list any files.

If it doesn't recognize the C drive you may want to try checking your cables.

Check inside to be sure the cables are secure. There should be 2 connections going into your hard drive. Just be sure the flat cable is pushed in all the way on both ends and the white connector is in good. This will show you a picture of the hard drive and the connections, just in case you haven't been inside your case before. Before you go into your case always be sure to ground yourself by touching metal on the case or you can damage parts inside with static electricity. Just keep one hand on a metal part of your tower and check the cables to your hard drive.

Also here is a microsoft link on how to reformat your C drive to install Windows 98

Yes I get the A prompt when I boot up with the floppy disk. I can get a c prompt and I had done a fdisk and format on it, so there are no files on the hard drive. When I boot up it makes a virtual drive D where it puts some tools. I can get a directory or files which ever (I am sorry). On the virtual drive. So I can pull up files on cd-rom, floppy, and virtual drives. I don't know if this will help you or not. I have been inside of the computer I had to replace the cmos battery, and a very long time ago I replaced a modem, and a cd drive on a couple of computers. This maybe a stupid question, when I changed the battery did I mess up the bios, since I can't find the bios.
Thanks alot Crizz44

No you didn't mess up the bios, it just resets it back to manufactures settings. You have found the bios, it just is a little different than most.

When you get to the A prompt , what letter is your cd drive? E?
Do you have a windows cd in the drive? If so, at the A prompt type E: and hit enter and it should change the drive to an E prompt. Then type setup after the cd drive letter, ex. E:\>setup and press enter.

This should start the windows setup. Hope this helps.

Thanks alot Crizz44,
I don't have just a windows- I have a recovery cd that is suppose to put my computer back to its orignal state. As far as I know I have used every dos command that I know of. And its either don't work ms-dos or needs windows to run it. Thats the reason I have been so crazy about getting this fixed. I am almost there but there is just one thing stopping me, and for the life of me I don't know anymore. In earlier posts there is one that has all the files on the cd recovery disk.It is post 17 if this helps in some way.

I can offer you a free copy of windows 98se if you are interested, it may help get past some of this. I am just not sure where else to go from here. You will still need drivers, but if you can get this started, you can get drivers off your cd or even online.
