I've googled my way through this, and tried so many guides, and i still get this problem...

Code 8024402C is the code i get when i try to update vista, last update was 3 months ago, and i only realized this a week or so back. As previously stated i have desperately searched google and other forums but to no avail...

Im quiet happy to start from step one to get rid of this annoying error...

I can't update microsoft vista home or even windows defender ...

Any help would be great

What i've done:
All of the # Remove invalid characters from the proxy exception list and then clear the proxy cache.

4. Type net stop wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter.
5. Type net start wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter.

Added to windows firewall.
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

Not sure what this means as i don't use a proxy afaik.
"# VPN and Proxy.

You are trying to access Windows Update using VPN. The website and Automatic Update may not function properly.

Autoproxy is not picking up the wpad.dat proxy configuration file to determine the proxy to be used for the target URL. Thus we are going with no proxy!

1. Try to access Windows Update while not using VPN connection.
2. Use the proxycfg tool to specify a proxy server to use (proxycfg.exe -p <proxy server>). (contact your network administrator to find out the name and port of this proxy.)"

Im pretty sure i dont have an ISA firewall, so that doesn't apply to me i believe...

What i've tried to do:
3. Type proxycfg -d at the command prompt, and press Enter.

Says "proxycfg" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
