hi can someone help me please, a friend of mine just upgraded her laptop from XP to VISTA ultimate all went well except for an annoying pop-up when she reboots, its a small box in the middle off her screen with the word "fAIL" in the middle, there is no other words anywhere on the box or screen, it can be closed with no ill affects, i have ran a search and destroy and all seams well there, i know it sounds like a trivial thing as on first glance its not causing a problem but i would be gratefull if someone could come up with a reason and solution for it.
thanks everyone in advance

moony

Run MSConfig and see if anything weird shows up in StartUp or Services.

Try this free tool: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...s/Autoruns.mspx

Way too much information for most purposes (this free tool is simpler: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml ), but it's the best thing for finding that elusive entry that you just can't find any other way. FWIW - I only use msconfig for diagnostics - preferring to use Autoruns to actually disable things.
