BleepingComputer.com: No Sound After Installing Windows Xp Pro

Hi i hope i am posting this in the right place as for some reason i cant use the search feature to look for the problem i am having.

I have just formated my hard drive and installed windows xp pro, i have installed all drivers in Device Manager but i am having problems with drivers.

(Here is what i see in Device Manager)

Other Devices (PCI Device)

(here is what it tells me in Properties)

Device type - Other devices
Manufacturer - Unknown
Location - PCI bus 0, device 16, function 1

Device status - The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers with the disc and the search online option but cant find anything.

I have run Belaric Advisor and can post results if needed, all windows updates are instaled.

There is another problem in Device Manager (System devices) Unknown device, i have always had this problem from when i first had this PC and had sound so don't think this is the problem but just thought i should say that i have this problem and maybe i will make another post to try to sort this at a later date.

For your sound try downloading and installing these ac97 codecs.

If they don't work then you can try these High definition audio codecs.

Remember to restart your computer after installation.

I tried the link for the unknown device problem but there is nothing listed there

The unknown device problem is just anoying as i know its there and cant sort it out should i start a new post for this or can we try sorting it here.

Motherboard Manufacturer with BIOS Revision and Model:

I will assume the port you plug your speakers into is on the back plate near the usb and ps2 ports.

The title of your thread only concerns the sound, which is now a non-issue.

that should fix the unknown device situation, if it's part of the motherboard.

what devices are in the slots and/or plugged into any usb ports?

I have nothing in any of the slots at the moment

Only thing in usb at the moment is my Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse

Do i have to install all of the ones you have listed or just one at a time to see if it sorts the problem.

It's a APCI Util used for changing the fsb and multiplyer under windows.

I'd install them and do the BIOS update.

here's the one that should fix the unknown device.

there are a couple of others on the ASUS website that you may want to check into that are not system critical, but could help avoid issues like this.

I have never tried BIOS update before is it hard or are there any instructions as this is one thing i have never tried to do before

well, it depends on what you are comfortable with.
would need to know the revision to your motherboard, you can see it if you go into the bios.
also http://www.gtopala.com has a nifty program that can also tell you. called System Information for Windows.
