Ipod Shuffle Won't Charge

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes. I used to just plug the ipod shuffle right into the usb port and it would automatically start charging. As of about a week ago, it doesn't do anything when I plug it in. And in itunes, the 'updat ipod' option is shadowed, like it's not even reading it. I don't know what to do! thanks guys
