The problem of running win98 is if mouse is not working, you have to push ALT and and arrow key, or enter key at same time to accept the agreement or what ever.

Are you saying the mouse doesn't work because it's USB? Then yes aBIOS update might fix that problem, or you could get a cheap mouse

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

DONT FLASH THE BIOS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

I havent done that for 20 years!

Go get a cheap 5 buck mouse and keyboard at your local dolar store
Try that.

The last time I was called out to fix a keyboard and mouse issue all I did was unplug it and reseat it.
It worked fine then. Customer reported the keyboard and mouse hadnt worked since August!
In the beginning there was the command line.
