I have disabled the Resident Shield per the instructions for the older versions, but there are still multiple avg processes running in the task manager. When I end them, they restart themselves.
Thanks,
Tim
Hope this helps: Temporarily Disabling Of AVG 9.0.

Someone posted this question in the thread for How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs
as post #23, "I have AVG 8. I disabled the resident sheild... but my anti-virus and anti-spyware still has the green active checkmark next to it, is this ok to run combofix or am I suppose to disable that too some how? I can't seem to figure out how to disable it separately, there's no option."
Please help.

I have some questions about the "disable" instructions.
RUBotted
I don't see this program in the instructions. Is there anything else I need to do besides clicking the icon in the system tray and then clicking "Quit RUBotted"?
SpySweeper
I need help with the following two bullets:
- Uncheck "home page shield". I don't see this at all. Where is it located?
- Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification" - I don't see this at all. Where is it located?
Do I need to uncheck the Auto-Update boxes?
When I finish disabling everything, do I need to reboot?
Thanks so much for everything,
Hopestill

The guide doesn't match what I get when I right-click for the context menu. There is no reference to Guard, so it can't be disabled. I've gone thru all the menus, and looked at Help (which refers to Guard, with option to Disable, though it doesn't actually exist.) I have gone into System Explorer utility (upgrade of Task Manager) and killed the antivir.exe process. Is that sufficient?
Running XP Home on a 1.7GHz P4 Dell 4400.

P.S.
Have now run ComboFix, apparently successfully, so it appears my action worked.

I used Comodo for some time, but at some point blocked WordWeb by accident, and could never find out how to unblock its hotkey/hotclick selections. So after requesting but not receiving help, I tried to uninstall Comodo, with the intention of reinstalling without that problem. But it turned out to be VERY hard to do -- there is no uninstall tool. So I did as thorough a manual job as possible, though there is much "Legacy" stuff in the Registry which cannot be cleared. This worked, however, to permit WordWeb to operate properly. (I also used Revo Uninstaller to look for traces, btw.)
I have not reinstalled Comodo, as I don't like badly behaved packages which do not provide uninstall routines.
Recently, another reference to Comodo blocking something popped up, so I inspected all the running Processes and Modules with System Explorer, and found guard32.dll from Comodo still in place, though I could see nothing invoking it. So I found the original file (in System32) and renamed it guard32.dll.bad, and found it in the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows and deleted the program pointer and set the NoPopUpsOnBoot Reg_DWord to 0, which seems to have worked to disable it. So far, no problems, but I'd be interested to know if you think I've done anything dangerous or damaging. And I'd like to know if I can or should delete the entire key from the Registry.

I have McAfee SecurityCenter running, and I have no idea how to disable it.
There is no "Exit" when I right click on the icon in the taskbar.

Click Advanced Menu (lower left)
Click Configure (left)
Click Computer & Files (upper left)
VirusScan can be disabled on the right.
Do the same via Internet & Network for Firewall Plus.
I double clicked the task bar icon. There is no advanced menu. Now what?

Double-click the taskbar icon to open SecurityCenter
Click Real Time Scanning (top)
Click Real Time Scanning Settings (right)
You can disable Antivirus there and tell it for how long
If you need to disable the firewall then click Firewall then Settings.
