This post is in regards to this previous post:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic113401.html

By looking through event logs, it seems that Symantec Anti-Virus runs a small scan, which somehow triggers the crash of svchost.exe. I have since uninstalled Symantec and haven't had the issue.

Now, I obviously need to protect my laptop with some sort of anti-virus program. I'm thinking about using Avast. Does anyone have any input on this subject?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Avast or AVG will, either one, provide adequate protection. You can certainly give both (one at a time) a try and see which works best with your computer's configuration and which is easiest for you to use.
