BleepingComputer.com: Followed The Sites Security Guidelines And Hit A Snag

Hi,

I have been trying to rid my sisters computer of a whole lot problems, i'm guessing that their mainly malware due to the fact that it originally started with IE7 getting bogged down, but im no expert so.....

I was following the sites malware removal guidelines and after downloading ad-ware (free version) and running that i am now unable to get on to the desktop. It loads like regular until you select a user and then brings up the background of the particular user (ive tried all users) but with no task bar or desktop icons.
I'm unfortunatly unable to open it up safe mode either. The same just occurs then.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for the advice, i looked through the links you gave and many others.... It seems after looking at a few forum sites that the problem i had, could have been caused by multipul problems. As i was unable to do much at all i managed to find a basic cd burner that worked, got the valuble files off my computer and ended up just doing a full system restore.

When doing a search on the net for your particular problem, you will find similar reports with various causes and possible solutions. What works for one person may not work for another. You did what you could for your sister and thats what counts.

To protect your sister against malware and reduce the potential for re-infection, have her read:
