I spoke with both Microsoft and Toshiba, and both said to simply run a system recovery. Obviously, I'm trying to avoid having to do this, as it entails a lot of work to get things back to normal. Anyone else having this problem? I've looked online for this problem (and a possible solution), to no avail. Any input would be greatly appreciated. The error reads like this (taken from the event viewer): Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. -------------------- Kind Regards,

What data does Event Viewer reflect that might be relevant?
What is the Event Viewer, and Should I Care - Ask Leo! - http://ask-leo.com/what_is_the_event_viewe...uld_i_care.html Microsoft Windows XP - Using Event Viewer - http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...r.mspx?mfr=true "Crashes"...does that mean that it locks up? Or do you get a BSOD? Or just an error message? How is it that you know that it's svchost.exe that crashes? XP current? Malware prevention installed and current? Firewall running? Louis |

Have you scanned for malware? Here's a couple of free, online scans:
http://safety.live.com http://housecall.trendmicro.com Unfortunately with Toshiba's there's no easy way to do a repair install - unless you can borrow an OEM copy of the XP version that you have. FYI - I did this yesterday with an HP disk on a Toshiba - and had to call Microsoft to reactivate Windows - a real PITA, but it did work. -------------------- - John
**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. ** BTW - the avatar pic is a camel as it looks back at me while I'm in the saddle (and he wasn't happy!) |

Hey folks:
As it turns out, I've narrowed it down to an operation performed by Symantec Anti-Virus. It was going on a loop. At any rate, I uninstalled Symantec and am trying out Avast, just for a change of fancy. Thanks so much for your input. It is much appreciated. -------------------- Kind Regards,
