There is no MSDOS in Windows XP. A subset of the features can be accessed via the command prompt, which you get to by going to Start > Run and writing CMD.

it does mean i cant practice the "trace the hacker tutorial".the command prompt wouldnt correspond

The command prompt should give you what you need.

I seem to recall (but am not very sure) that you can launch the DOS command interpreter by typing "command" in the Run dialog box.
Just tried it on my Vista installation - and it says it's DOS
