When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix logs. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

You did well.

Doesn't appear there's anything else to be concerned about. How is your computer running?

Hi Quietman....

First, thanks for the compliment. Your help was extraordinary. Second, I am unable to tell you how the PC and laptop are running. I am in Southern CA and as I am sure you have now heard, we have a lot of fires here. One is very close and I needed to get out of the area. Am at work so I will advise when I can, hopefully later this p.m. Until then, please do not close this item as while I think it is ok, I want to make sure it is. Ok?

Hi quietman......

Am back for a short period of time. The PC appears to be operating ok. Based on your comment above, I assume you read through all of the reports I posted on the scans you advised me to run. So after reading them, it appears to you that all is well?

I will check the lap top either later today or tomorrow morning and will post here.

Thanks for all your assistance....

Quietman,

1. checked the lap top and it seems to be all right. ran all spyware and virus scans and nothing is noted.
2. rechecked the PC and ran all the same scans and again, nothing noted there either.

3. So after reading the scan results that I posted above here, is the problem resolved?

Please advise.

Thanks again for all of your assistance.

If your not finding any more malware during your scans, then it looks like your good to go.

Now you should Set a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one. Some of the malware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore. Since this is a protected directory your tools cannot access to delete these files, they sometimes can reinfect your system if you accidentally use an old restore point. Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.

The easiest and safest way to do this is:
  • Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
  • Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name, then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.
  • Then use Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recent Restore Point.
  • Go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
  • Click "OK".
  • Click the "More Options" Tab.
  • Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Will take these steps to create a restore point on both the PC and lap top. But, I must tell you that when I have tried to do this in the past, system restore will not allow me to go back to previous created restore points.

I read something, but can not recall where on these blogs, that Dell has a feature that "prevents" the user from going back to an access point. I know I am not saying it right, but I do know that I was never able to return to an access point previously created.

Any help on that?

And in the mean time, I'll do the steps outlined above on the PC and lap top when I am at home.

You may be confusing System Restore with the Dell PC Restore which allows you to quickly and easily restore your Dell PC to factory condition. Essentially, it will reformat your hard drive, remove all data and restore the computer to the state it was in when you first purchased it. You will lose all data and have to reinstall all programs that you added afterwards.

Dell's Support site has instructions for using System Restore posted here.

Maybe I am confusing it, I'm not sure. I have printed the Dell instructions so when I get home I'll use this to see if I can make a restore point for both PC and lap top. Will post back my results. Thanks again....
