So I want to partition my C: drive using Acronis Disk Director to make a 40 GB partition for Ubuntu. I do it and it does everything and there is never a new partition. Im running Vista Home Premium. I have about 133 GB left on my HD so its not the size. Please help as I really want Ubuntu. Also should I make the partition Ext3 for Ubuntu. Thanks for help in advance.

When you make a partition with Disk Director, you've also got to apply/commit to the changes and then let the system reboot to make the changes (it can't do any of this while Windows is open).

Are you using v10.0 or higher? As I recall, previous versions weren't Vista compatible.
I'd have to suggest creating the boot CD for Disk Director and making the changes after booting to the CD.

I fixed it. I just made my partition smaller first so then i used the unallocated space.
