I Cant Hear Anything something wrong with my volume control, it says its not installed?

hello, i was recently trying to play counter strike source when i noticed i had no sound. i checked my headphones etc but when i tried to make volume control show, it said it wasn't installed on control panel. any ideas?

why won't my laptop work?

ok i got my sound working, thanks guys. but now im being told my microphone has like an echo sound and no one can hear me.

In Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices under the Voice tab is the microphone settings (the advanced tab)See what settings are offered there. Are you using a headset combo?. Can you get the latest driver for it?

im using a headset that has a mic and headphones on it. i see 2 default devices and advanced which has what kind of speakers i have. i don't know the driver though.

creative doesn't have any new drivers for the product but several other people have had the same problems and either try making sure it isn't muted under volume control or try simply unplugging and replugging the headset...
