Not exactly sure what's going on here. AOL won't sign on without IE being signed on first, it even prompts to sign on IE. AOL would start by itself and tried to sign on and ask for the password. When online, I would get popups for various webpages, seemed random at first but then repeated. Here's a list of the webpages that popped up:

srv.clubring.net/?show=3411&thread=13
saatchi-gallery.co.uk/
continuousbroadband.com
fling.com
add for Free Celebrity Videos

Also, if it helps, here's a list of the files I have removed so far:

atwola.com
ProcKill
TrackingCookie (That's the name of the file, the type was IE Cache.)
Exitexchange.com
Generic.Botget.4BB0AA62
Win32.Worm.Klez.H
TagASaurus

The next list of files I think are related to Kazaa, which I have uninstalled:

Cydoor
Adwar.Altnet
TopSearch

And here is the logfile:

Hi Hermez and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

Please download SmitfraudFix

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hey thanks! I was just about to put an update on here and saw your reply.

I used the my new firewall from the recommendation from here and locked all my internet activity for a while. Then I ran through all the steps in the prep guide a couple of times. I don't seem to be having any popups anymore. I don't have any other immediately noticeable problems, but would still like to have someone check my log reports just to be on the safe side.

I did what you asked about the SmitFraudFix, and here's the report from that:

Go ahead and run the cleanup stage of this fix,you will have to reset your desktop background afterwords but Id rather be safe than sorry.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

After you post those logs,Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Only one stragler left behind.

Open HijackThis-> Click "Do a System Scan Only" and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ISMPack5] "C:\Program Files\ISM2\ISMPack5.exe"

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button

After that,Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only
  • Follow the Instruction on the F-Secure page for proper installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Hello Cretemonster. I apologize tremendously for the delay. Your help has been magnificent so far

and is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your patience.

I updated internet explorer for the online scanner that you requested I use. I downloaded and

installed IE7. It will not open now. I double clicked on the IE icon and it created a shortcut, which it

does every time. I double clicked the shortcut icon, the hard drive grinds like it's trying to do

something, but nothing happens. I right clicked both icons, but neither has an "Open" option. Your

thoughts? wacko.gif

Much gratitude thumbup2.gif ,

Hermez

Interesting,I had no issues with IE7...I assume F-Secure wouldnt scan with IE6??

Do you see a entry for IE7 in add/remove????

If so,remove the entry and reboot then try to reinstall it is all I know to do right now.

You should be installing all of the MS critical updates as well.

Hey there, how ya doin'?

Well, I got IE7 working now thumbup.gif .

However, I can't get the F-Secure Online Scanner to operate successfully.

It starts up and goes through the download step, but when it starts to scan it stops and gives an error pompt telling me

to close the scanner and browser and start over, and has some Id: 24 code at the end of the message.

Well, I'm going do a cycle through all my malware scanners.

Thanks a whole big bunch,

Hermez
