If your content is wider than the display window, the browser will automatically add the scrollbar for you. Other than that, horizontal scrollbars annoy people. Most pages scale themselves to fit the display to avoid that issue.

So let's try this again. Your question is really "How do I put scrolling text in the status bar of the browser"?
Is that correct?

Have you tried plugging the phrase "scrolling text in the status bar of the browser" into your favorite search engine? You ought to be able to find a few hundred examples of what you want.

I think this is what you want: http://javascript.internet.com/text-effect...r-scroller.html
Note: Many users (myself included) have disabled this in their browser as it's really annoying.
