Various Browser Windows Crash / Freeze seem to be related to Java applets?

Hope this is the right place to post this, and I'll try to explain as best as I can. I've got an hp Pavillion laptop (1 year old), Windows XP, Symantec Antivirus/Firewall, and use either IE7 or Firefox for browsing. For the past few days, certain websites won't work in either of those browsers (we have a desktop, and all works fine there). An example, pogo.com, which I have been a frequent user of on this computer, now will load but when the pop-up window for a game opens, none of the links/buttons (including the red X to close the window) will function. I have to ctr-alt-del to get the game window to close, which will then close any other tabs I happen to have open at the time. No error messages show up in the task bar, and I can still move the cursor, but can't click on anything. I would normally think this was tied to this particular website, but if I go into my Control Panel and click on the Java icon, I can't click on anything in the window that opens either, so really not sure what's going on?

I have uninstalled all java programs and updates, and reinstalled as directed. Now have Java 6 Update 3. I have tried searching to see if I could find a solution to this problem myself, but couldn't find anything related. I ran a full virus scan last night and nothing was harmful was detected. Hoping any of you will have some great suggestions as to what I could try to fix this problem?

Thanks so much in advance!
~Jenn

Nevermind - I've gotten it taken care of. Don't think anyone was planning on responding anyway

In case anyone's wondering it was actually a problem with my mouse driver. Reinstalled that and everything is good to go. Evidently it wasn't anything to do with Java, but whenever I opened a window that didn't have keyboard prompts it was stuck open.
