BleepingComputer.com: Url Forwarding, Subdomains

Hi,

I have successfully forwarded my domain name (registered on namecheap) eg. http://mydomain.com to ns1.RemovedByAdmin1.com and ns2.RemovedByAdmin1.com where my site is hosted.

Secondly, I have created a forum on createmybb.com eg. http://forum.createmybb.com

I would like to know how I can create a subdomain (eg. either http://forum.mydomain.com, or http://mydomain.com/forum) and link that URL to my forum.

A sub-domain is the part of the name that comes at the front of the url, ie 'www' or 'forum', etc. The part that comes after the slash is a directory/file/folder within a domain.

Creating sub-domains is just a matter of configuring your server so that it knows what to do with it when it gets it. The domain is always going to point to your server, no matter the subdomain attached to it (unless someone else has specifically pointed that sub-domain somewhere else). On my server, I hae a list of rewrite rules in the http.config file that tell the server how to handle the various urls.

It sort of depends what you have on your server, and what access you have to the configuration files, and the server that you are running.

Additionally, many web hosting services have a control panel where you can setup, remove, and edit your subdomains. Your best bet would be to ask your provider how (if) they want you to do it on their system.
