Hello jodaunger,
From Adobe: "...'Error 1714' when you update or install Acrobat...":
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...ternalId=320310
Also, see the last post in this thread at Adobe:

Also, see the following thread here at Bleeping Computer, with basically the same recommendation (use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility):

I know I'm going to feel like an idiot asking this question but to preserve what little sanity is left and to fix the problem I must.
I've installed the Windows Installer mentioned but, um, how do you run it? It isn't listed among my Programs on my Start pulldown but I do see it under the Control Panel Add/Remove (with no size shown) and when I checked the services.msc it is there. How the heck do I find/run the program so I can try to remove this Adobe Reader at long last?
Thanks,
PJ

After you install the utility (which you already have done), you should be able to start the utility by clicking Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up.
Further instructions can be found at:
"Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility":

That's where I looked for it first and it wasn't there. I tried to find other ways to open it but no luck.
I decided to just click on the link you provided and install it again. For some reason that did the trick!!!!! I was able to remove the Adobe Reader through the WI and just installed the new version of Adobe Reader and it's working perfectly now.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Now...if you could just fix my video problems....
