Love him or loathe him, you have to admit he has done a massive amount towards the growth of computing and the Internet.

Gates was in the right place at the right time and made several good business decisions, someone else would have come along and taken his place if he would have let them.

He imitated/cloned Jobs' apple GUI which had been invented by Xerox, their employee at menlo park was more instrumental in the internet

IBM got Bill started and then set him free when they decided to develope OS2, all the reverse engineered builders like HP and Dell needed an OS to put on their ibm clone personal pc's

Apple dropped the ball when they decided to keep everything in house with their computers, about went under till Bill bailed them out and basically left his the only game in town(world)

If Xerox or Apple was half as visionary as Gates, chances are we wouldn't be running windows machines right now
