Cannot Boot Form Live Cd

im using laptop NEC..recently, my friend gave me live cd ubuntu..i've try to boot form the cd but my laptop seem cannot detact the cd..was it my laptop which doesnt support the cd or i need to change some setting for it to work..

First, go into the bios and see if it is set up to boot from CD/DVD (on many desktops, this is done by pressing the "delete" key or the F2 key during initial powering on of the computer). Then, make sure the live CD is bootable. Of Course to do that, you would have to have access to it's files...What do you mean by detect? As in it didn't see the disk for boot-up or it doesn't see the disk at all, even after boot up and you have no way to look at it's contents?
