Windows Media Player 11 will not burn cd

I recently upgraded to WMP 11 and wanted to burn a cd. I get the error message:

Please insert blank CD in disc drive and WMP will automatically burn cd.

I tried a whole pack of cds that I just bought and the disc drive will just open up and give me the above error.

Any suggestions?
